ABOUT

Esther Shea is from Jersey in the Channel Islands and is studying for her Master of Music in vocal studies and opera at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Elizabeth Ritchie. ​She won First Prize in the 2025 Williams Howard Prize and is a two-time finalist in the Frederic Cox Award. 

 

Her operatic roles include Mrs Coyle in Britten's Owen WingraveDido in Dido and Aeneas and Youka in L'étoile.

 

On the concert platform,​​ Esther has performed Mozart’s C Minor Mass, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.2 and Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, with Bach's B Minor Mass upcoming this spring.

Esther is performing as the Soprano II soloist in Bach's B Minor Mass as part of Pennine Spring Music Festival in St Thomas' Church Hepstonastall.

Esther is performing the role of Mariane in scenes from Kirke Mechem's opera 'Tartuffe" in the RNCM Opera Theatre.

Esther has been chosen to compete in the finals of The Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss.

Her program includes Zueignung, Beim Schlafengehn, Schlagende Herzen and Allerseelen.

After winning First Prize in the Williams Howard Prize, Esther has been invited to perform a recital as part of the Buxton International Festival. Alongside pianist Winnie Su they will perform a diverse program of music by composers of African descent.
